Ski & Splitboard Touring in the Lyngen Alps

This is an amazing area that has become popular with tourers in the last few years. The Lyngen peninsula is an area of mountains, islands and fjords above the Arctic circle in Northern Norway. The peaks are mostly around 1200-1500m high and they drop right into the sea making them ideal for ski tourers and splitboarders. There are no lifts but there are ferries, boats and roads running around most of the coastline.  In this area it is also possible to be based from a sailing boat, but a seaside house offers more comfort, warmth and flexibility.
For this week we will be based in log cabins near Lyngseidet in the centre of the Lyngen Alps. The cabins have communal living space and are comfortable and warm. There is also a larger log house for eating and socailising, and a firewood sauna. There is fresh fish for dinner from the boats, and a great breakfast to stock up on before each day.

We will make daily trips to climb different mountains in the Lyngen peninsula, returning each night to the house. The mountains have a big-Scottish or small-Alpine feel with some glacier tours and some not. We will have a minibus for transport so that we can make the most of the conditions on the day. We may use a boat to access some skiing but we will keep this as an additional cost as it is weather dependant.

Most days involve 3-4 hours of skinning as all the peaks involve 1000m or more of ascent, but the effort will be rewarded with great descents from Arctic summit to the beach, and unlike the Alps there is not altitude to worry about!
The trip runs Sun to Sun to benefit from the flight to Tromso with Norweigan from London Gatwick . Minibus to Lyngseidet (90 mins) is included in the price as long as you arrive in Tromso at roughly the same time as the main group .

Here’s a great film of one of our trips in conjunction with Snoworks Ski Courses in April 2016 to give you a flavour of touring in Lyngen.

Dates :  Unfortunately we are already booked for Norway in 2017 so please reserve for 2018!
